Title: Distribution of Singapore independent film : its role and channels available today
Synopsis:

My paper explores how the development in the distribution of Singapore independent films contributes to the Singapore film industry on the whole. It highlights why distribution is important, how the distribution landscape is changing with the emphasis of digital technology for both independent and studio film, and what new platforms are available today for independent films. My paper focuses on Singapore independent film because the independents were largely responsible for the resurgence of the film industry on the whole in Singapore in the late 1990s and thus in studying the growth direction of the independent movement, I hope to further contribute to the survival of the film industry in Singapore.

The aim of this paper is to offer an overview of new film distribution trends and channels, measure it against the distribution methods undertaken by filmmakers of Singapore independent film, and suggest areas of improvement as the industry moves forward. In the end, we might be able to bring forth new distribution strategies that are suitable for the Singapore context.
