Title: A psychodynamic exploration of responsive image making in art therapy with adolescents at a mainstream educational setting in Singapore
Synopsis:

In the light of art therapy’s growing efficacy, the question of scientific credibility has challenged practitioners to apply their primary way of knowing, as a mode of inquiry in the psychodynamic exploration of the therapeutic encounter (McNiff, 1998, 1999, 2013; Sullivan, 2000). This is based on the belief that the use of art as a research tool enables spontaneity in expression and allows for the researcher, to register, reflect and revise observed content at a pre conscious level. Situated therefore, within an intersubjective framework, this study will explore art therapy with adolescents at a mainstream educational setting in Singapore, in an attempt to elucidate the phenomenon of responsive image making, and its contribution to therapeutic progress by examining the underlying processes and relational dynamics within the session.
