Title: Regression in art therapy: a Singapore adolescent schoolboy’s journey towards health
Synopsis:

This study explores the passage of therapy of a young adolescent boy adversely affected by the trauma of parental divorce. His experience of a difficult childhood contributed to his maladaptive behaviours in class, expressed via frequent temper outbursts, thus prompting his teachers to refer him to art therapy. Through engagement in the creative process, marked by repeated cycles of regression, and responding to both the therapist's holding and attunement within their shared intersubjective space, he manages to find cathartic relief. Subsequent satisfactory reports from his teachers support the notion that art therapy, conducted in the school environment, can be a useful treatment intervention to alleviate such distress.
