Title: Art therapy’s role in facilitating the awareness of intrapsychic and interpsychic conflict in a pre-schooler
Synopsis:

Ali’s attempt to process and gain insight into his intrapsychic and interpsychic conflict was substantiated in the art therapy sessions. The intersubjective experience of the client, therapist and art making triad, facilitated the creation of a safe holding space for Ali to express himself through form and content in his art making. The case study which is qualitative in nature, interlinks the analysis and evolution of Ali’s therapeutic process with theories of separation and individuation, the oedipal complex, attachment and intersubjectivity. The interplay of transference and countertransference within the sessions further assisted his progression in the art therapy sessions.
