Title: Engaging in a visual dialogue : group art therapy for adults with verbal communication challenges
Synopsis:

Following a seven-month facilitation of weekly group art therapy for adults who have significant verbal challenges due to their medical conditions, this research study seeks to explore how clients actively engaged in a visual-based dialogue through their participation in art processes. An ethically-responsible qualitative research was conducted to explore clinical materials. Theoretical frameworks utilized for the author’s case study research were intersubjectivity and art-making. Ultimately, this dissertation aims to advocate for a multi-dimensional approach in therapeutic work with the specific client population. It also seeks to highlight the validity of art therapy in addressing the emotional needs of clients, and how art therapy function as an enhanced support of well-being for clients from the specific population.
