Title: | Emotional intelligence through art therapy for elementary-aged children in mainstream school setting |
Synopsis: | This thesis is a reflection on the effectiveness and impact of art therapy interventions on emotional intelligence (EI or EQ) and socio-emotional learning (SEL) of elementary-aged children in an international mainstream school setting in Singapore. My interest in this subject was motivated by my clinical work as an art therapy intern-practitioner working with children as well as my identity as a mother. A practice based, qualitative model was adopted for my research process is and I have attempted to present evidence through a review of contemporary and relevant literature. It is my endeavour to strengthen the case for wide-spread integration of art therapy services in schools with a view to enhance EQ, complement SEL programmes and improve the school experience of children, through the findings of this study. |
