Title: Cucullain and Ferdia. Year: 1994–2001. Medium: Bogwood with polyester resin, glass, rock crystal and bronze, bronze, wood. Dimensions: 85 x 115 x 31 cm
Synopsis:

Medium-sized mixed-media sculpture in the form of a wing, angled upwards, with three angular ridges projecting from the flank of the body. The hollows between the ridges are filled with polyester resin and densely encrusted with green glass fragments mixed with red rock crystal. A piece of bronze is inserted just behind the middle ridge and projects out of the body of the sculpture in a limb-like formation intended to symbolise the Gae Bolga (in Irish mythology, this was the spear that Cucullain of Ulster used to overcome his best friend Ferdia of Connaught in a battle when fate pitted them against each other as representatives of rival armies). The title of the work references these two legendary Irish heroes. The base is wood. The sculpture was originally made in 1994 and subsequently redone in 2001.
