Title: Asia Pacific Bureau of UNESCO ITI
Synopsis:

This APB event was fully supported by Lasalle: for the second time, including the APB event in HoChiMinh in 2013 – which took also all the Technical Production Diploma students, the Acting programme took the full cohort for the full Festival of Theatre Schools – 13 actors.

Lasalle also supported three (3) staff members to attend this event: Dean of Performing Arts, Amanda Morris, Voice and Acting teacher, Aole Miller, and Senior Fellow, Aubrey Mellor.

The actors participating were all final year students, all completing their BA Hons, and they took a performance that was part of their training – a Forum Theatre workshop production on ‘Gender-based Oppression’ directed by professional guest staff, Li Xie.

The students were fully committed and well disciplined, proving excellent ambassadors for Lasalle. Thought they kept together as a group and were possibly too mature to fully immerse, they participated in all classes and attended all performances. As a result there was little time for them to see much of Shanghai, but they did visit the Bund and the Shanghai Museum. As usual, the students made contacts with others from the Asia Pacific, in some cases friendships that will prove lasting.

Aubrey Mellor was a founding member of APB and remains active on its organizing committee. Lasalle joined in 2008 and has since attended all annual events, with students supported to events in Peru, Delhi, Taipei, HoChiMinh and Shangahi. Amanda Morris was also present in the 2013 APB event in HoChiMinh and Aole Miller attended it in Taipei and in Peru.

This report acknowledges the college’ support for participation in international events: support for both staff and students through the Division of Students service and Human Resources.
